I didn't realize that something like this existed. It was interesting to explore but I don't think I'd read news articles based on popularity. I'm not sure if this would be useful for work.
I tried sharing an article from the New York Times on Reddit.

I agree. I've always associated Digg with websites people found entertaining, rather than news-related.
